, a girl who used to work at Hogs Breath, picked me, Alice, Dane and Chats up at 12, and drove us to Palm Cove. We had a look round the chapel, which was in a stunning location, overlooking the beach, but since there was no sign of the coach Josh had booked to transport attendees from The Colonial Club to the Wedding, we headed to the Palm Cove Tavern, to have a beer or eat some sweet potato chips and garlic bread, depending on who you were. When Brenton rang us to say they'd got there, we made our way to the chapel again, where we were handed the sequence of service, glued to a wooden lolly stick. Alanna's mum had made the bride and bridesmaid's dresses, but I wasn't too sure about Alanna's- it had a big pink bow, with a pink train and lacy shoulders, but I'm sure it was very up her street.
During the ceremony, the celebrant showed us a lock and key which was to symbolise the closed door on single life- she made Alanna lock it and Josh throw away the key (which reminded Renton of the 'Buffalo Club'- a game that Mo taught us). It was a bit embarrassing when the celebrant asked for both the mothers to come, and accused the grooms mum of not listening because she wasn't standing up (the woman remaining sat down was actually the step mum, who for some reason had sat where the mum should have been). There were some stones that we were supposed to write messages on for Josh and Alanna to keep- there were too many moments when you needed to think of something slushy! Whilst the married couple were having endless photos taken, me and Alice pretended to get married, and the celebrant asked us if we were partners.
The coach came to pick us up at 3.30, and so we were sat waiting at the Colonial Club for ages since we were only allowed in the room at 5.30, so we spent our time having a drink and playing air hockey and table tennis.
When we were allowed into the room, we had a look round- there was a table with pink pick 'n' mix on which you could help yourself to, and on the tables were a free key shaped bottle opener and the paper fortune teller things which gave you different dares (you had to choose kiss, hug, squeeze or cuddle and then under the numbers were different people such as the bride, groom, etc).
It was a buffet for dinner, Josh said he thought it was pretty good but I thought it was pretty average. I did like the coconut profiteroles and the cupcakes though. After Josh and Alanna cut the cake, Josh and some of Alanna's cheerleading friends performed a surprise dance, which explained why Josh had the song it was to n his head the other day when we went for breakfast!
Given the speeches are supposed to be the boring part, I really enjoyed them- Laura (the best man) and Grace's were pretty funny. The celebrant had handed out keys to various attendees of the wedding (including Brenton) an then during her speech asked them to be returned, to continue the lock and key metaphor, which I think is meant to make out like Alanna was having relationships with them.
