Penny had told me about how hard Paul (the manager) was to please, but this morning was the first time I got to experience it. It was really busy towards the end of my shift, and so I started using the bigger plates, as I wasn't putting the usual breakfast plates in the dishwasher in time, and when it got to 9, Paul told me to stop serving the toast, despite the fact that there was only one bloke to serve left (one of Eddie's coworkers), and so I didn't mind serving him as it would only cost me another 3 minutes or so. Paul had a go at me for using the big plates, which I can kind of understand why, as if I started giving them out to guests, they might think they had to wash them up themselves and put them in the guest kitchen, but it made me laugh to myself that Paul wants just big plates in the bar kitchen and small plates in the guest kitchen because the backpackers will 'cook their meals and put them on small plates and then they will see their meals on the big plates and think wow they do big portions'. I don't think being served a 3-bite meal on a big plate would trick me that much.
I thought I would have been done at work to be able to get the 10 o' clock bus, but actually finished at quarter to 11! Josh made me one of the valentine Special cocktails though and put it in a kid's cardboard cup so that I could take it away with me. And he didn't charge me! Although it just tasted like cranberry juice really.
I had predrinks with people at the hostel for Eric's Birthday. I had given him some of the crusts of the bread I got this morning as a present, and he returned the favour by giving me one of the free entries to the woolshed. Me and Alice went to the Kasbah, where Aron was DJ-ing, but we just sat on the terrace and chatted to Nikki, Eddie and some of Eddie's workmates.
