10 Mar 2013
I opened the restaurant today, and Sammy (one of the chefs, who's friends with Chats, the co-manager, and Indy, another chef, because they all come from Sri Lanka) helped me tip out the bin for the bar, and he was asking whether I had a boyfriend or was looking for a boyfriend which was a bit awkward. It must have been my day for getting chatted up, as an Israeli customer, who was eating alone, said I was cute and asked what I was doing tonight.
{Very mundane but I can maybe refer back for interview questions] I put through an order for profiteroles, and when it was taking ages for them to make it and I asked where they were the kitchen were just like "yeah yeah, we're just making it" although a few minutes later they told me we had no profiteroles- very bad communication here!
Bex and Barry had brought loads of barbeque stuff, so we had one on the esplanade- there's loads of sheltered spots along it, and some of them have barbeques already there, but we were in the one right at the very end with no barbeque, as it didn't have security cameras and the others wanted to have a few drinks. It was a really nice one, and Barry only asked for a $5 donation from each of us (as he collects $5 notes) although he must have spent loads on it. We started off having chilli and sour cream crisps, and then chicken satay sticks (Alice had a veggie burger), and then the meat eaters had a kangaroo burger accompanied with a feta cheese salad, potato salad, coleslaw (minus mayonnaise, but Barry had brought mayo for us to add ourselves so that it wouldn't go soggy), Ritz crackers, pine nut, spinach and pecorino dip and tasty (a type of cheese, like cheddar).
When me and Stacey came back, Annie was there, and was saying about how she was worried that we would get thrown out if Dave (the manager) found out she was there, and that she would have to leave early and so she wouldn't be able to get eggs and bacon for breakfast… she had checked out of The Beach House as she is leaving on Tuesday. She decided she wouldn't stay tomorrow night (to save us from Dave finding out) but for some reason tonight didn't seem to matter.
