I set the alarm for 5, but it wasn't light enough to see anything then, so our platypus viewing started at 6 instead. We gave up at about half past, so got ready to go on to Eungella. When we arrived at the platypus viewing platform, I asked a couple if they had seen one, which they hadn't. We had arrived at 8.40, and so wasn't expecting much since the best times were 4am-8am and 3pm-7pm. However our patience eventually lead to us spotting some. They were tiny- about 20cm long- and it was funny when we saw two of them clash heads.
We drove back to the lookout, and then did the bushwalk to Eungella town. When we arrived back at the van, an old man started chatting to us, who I had noticed had wet himself a tiny bit.
We stopped in Mackay for a bit so Alice could get someone to have a look at her phone which, typically, started working when she got there. We got some supplies from Coles and used the Wi-Fi, before heading out to Cape Hillsborough in the hope of seeing some kangaroos jump the surf, although our wildlife spotting luck must have ended this morning.
Alice's friend Jake was in Mackay doing a training course, and so we went to meet up with him at his cabin on a campsite. We got a cab into the Maria, and had vegetarian pizza at one of the pubs. It was nice to sleep in a proper bed for the night- there were 2 double beds and a single which seemed a bit extravagant for just him.
