I woke up early today so that I could go for a swim before work, in the hostel pool, which felt good that I was making use of the facilities, and like I was having a good start to the day.
When I got to work, Allen was doing bible training to a German girl, Mara, (bible training is what they call the training that Allen gives), which I was a bit surprised at, given that Josh had said he wasn't going to take any one new on. He seemed to think that she would be able to help us cope better because Emilie K was sick, when in actual fact, training slows you down. At one point I felt very stressed because, although there probably wasn't that many customers, all of them were sat on the right section (the section I was looking after, and Mara was following me around for) so despite the fact Brooke was helping me out, it still felt like it was my responsibility to be looking after them all, and still show Mara what to do. I was disappointed (and very surprised) when Allen told me I could go home at 1.15- I was rostered onto close and so should have been there until about 3! Brooke told me he had said she could go at 1.30, so that for an hour it would only be him and Mara looking after the whole restaurant, and closing it too. Had I not have hung around out the back talking to Dane, Josh wouldn't have even offered me a free steak sandwich to compensate! This one was a bit better, although I don't think I'll get another one. I treated myself to an iced Malaysian coffee (i.e. it had condensed milk in it) but you couldn't really taste the difference between that and a normal iced coffee.
After sunbathing (and holding on for dear life to the sun lounger whilst Guy tipped it upside down so that I should have fallen into the water, and then trapped my fingers when he put back down) I finished off the afternoon cleaning shift that Alice had started- this is so all three of us don't have to do it Sunday morning- the morning after Barry's birthday (we'll be staying over). Oh, this is because this week is the first week that Me and Alice share my morning cleaning, so that I pay half rent and she can do one day of reception and still have days off for when she wants to do something.
Me and Dane had been talking about how Emilie K went for chocolate nachos at Cactus Jack's, so we went to try them. They weren't real nachos, but reminded me a bit like triangular shaped, plain flavoured cinnamon grahams (which is a cereal) and were topped with ice cream and cream (and obviously chocolate sauce). We saw Chante who was having a meal with her family.
The hostel is pretty full tonight- the receptionist put a French guy in our room… poor guy having to stay in our very lived in, messy room!
