Managed to do all the cleaning this morning, but still took an extra hour to do so. I felt very inspired to do extra work tomorrow (I'm not cleaning tomorrow, and thought I wasn't working lunchtime at Hogs, but then Josh was understaffed and so put me on) cleaning the bathroom doors. What a shame I'm now working.
Whilst researching and writing up about my crunchy persimmons, I felt the urge to go back to the fruit and veg market to try and find a black sapote (the fruit you bake to give it the texture of chocolate pudding) because I'm pretty sure I saw some somewhere, but couldn't find one so decided to try a custard apple. Me and Alice ate it at her hostel with the receptionist, Corrie. It was messy to eat, because there was large pips and a knobbly skin, but worth it! Then we went to have a look round some clothes shops Alice had walked past on her way to work and wanted to check out.
It started to rain whilst we were walking to Cairns Central, so I took us a route which was undercover, which included my new favourite hotspot, the fruit and veg market. The stalls were packing up and so selling things for dirt cheap. I showed Alice the vegetarian pie stall, and we were looking interested in some of the cakes she was selling, so we ended up being given a pumpkin scone (bit bland) and a pumpkin (I think?) muffin (much tastier, as it had cinnamon-y sweet flavours). When I got back to the hostel, one of the guys we had seen there had brought a massive tray for $4- worth going back at that time again I think!
I really don't understand how my brain works as it seems the days after I go out I work better than when I just chill out and watch TV- I was absolutely awful at work today. I kept forgetting what customers had literally just ordered a few moments ago, and didn't put a Japanese couples order through so they were waiting for ages (they were still really lovely about it though). There were a lot of birthdays, and I had a table celebrating 16 year old Lisa's birthday so she saw a lot of desserts being taken out with the staff singing happy birthday, but I forgot to hit the birthday button on the screen. I think she was probably quite relieved but her family might have been a tad disappointed.
It was Nobby's last night (Nobby is the Japanese bartender) so hit Rattle 'n' Hum and P.J.'s. We tried to get into Gilligan's but Hannah's boyfriend Jim got turned away for being too drunk, although Hannah said he was sober (I couldn't really tell either way), and Masaki didn't have I.D. so you can guess where the night ended (begins with a W, ends in oolshed). My hostel was on the way to a few of the Japanese workers houses, so I walked back with them. "Oyasumi nasai" means have a good evening. I love how happy Eri always looks, she's so cute! The word cute seems to be used by Japanese people a fair bit- I've been described by customers at work on the comment card as cute, and one of the guys said I was cute tonight.
