30 Jan 2013
Today I covered Bex's cleaning shift, as she is working at Toys 'R' Us today. The morning feels a lot cooler than the evening! After showering, I got the paid local bus into town and walked to the pier shopping centre, to hand in my CV to 'Tha Fish' restaurant, as I had seen an advert for wait staff on Gumtree. I also handed it in to various other places there, and along the way to the Rainbow Inn (where a food and beverage attendant job was advertised). Domino's pizza are hiring pizza delivery people, although the guy said you had to have a motorcycle license to drive the scooters, but I put on my application form I'd be willing to take this. I couldn't resist some cinnamon and butter topped dough balls! Dominoes is near Officeworks (the place I have been getting my printouts from) so I photocopied some more plain CV's, as most of the ones I'd already printed were stapled to covering letters, and in some places it was hard to see which one would suit it best. For example in a café, jobs available could be a kitchen hand or a waitress. Officeworks is also a good place to stop by if you're thirsty as they have chilled water, and free tea and coffee!
Someone had said that a florist in Cairns Central shopping plaza was looking for a part-timer, so I swung by there. I couldn't see any florists but handed in my CV to most of the food court stalls, and a few shops. There was a café which had a sign up for an immediate starting job (although I hadn't seen this before I handed in my CV). The girl behind the counter said the manager should be back soon and to wait as I'd have a better chance of getting it, and I'm really glad I asked her as another backpacker came in and handed her CV in, and the girl who she spoke to just took it off her. The job would start on Friday (the 1st Feb) so he is letting me know the outcome by tomorrow afternoon. It seems quite hopeful as, although I'm sure loads of backpackers apply, at least there's only one day of them doing so! Treated myself to a toppings loaded frozen yoghurt (similar to the one we had in Singapore).
Came back to do my cleaning shift- my legs were aching from all the bending down to clean the toilets.
