Today Fernando hosted a BBQ in honour of Emilie leaving, which I had to swap shifts with Donna to be able to attend, but I'm so glad I did! It was a bit bewildering having to choose between the many different choices of nice wine (there's only about 3 brands of goon to choose from), but I took a chardonnay and some Thai sweet chilli flavoured peanuts which Fernando's fiancée's mum seemed to enjoy. Emilie had brought some Swedish snacks from Fika, which were pretty much less flavoursome version of Wotsits. Since we were waiting for Ashleigh (Fernando's fiancée) to finish her sign language lesson and for Allen, his wife and Mara (the German girl who was helping out at Hogs Breath, whose staying with Allen for a while) to arrive, then I got pretty full on the snacks, including Fernando's delicious homemade hummus. He also made some chilli flavoured chicken burgers and sausages before the others arrived, so I was already pretty full by the time the main event of rump steak, marinated prawns, chicken wings, and pork arrived on the table. Chats had made some Sri Lankan rice, but left before we ate it, as she had met some other Sri Lankans, and so were having dinner with them which she's excited about as it's the first Sri Lankans apart from Sammy and Indi that she has met in Cairns. Allen also brought some potato bake, which he kept marketing to us all… I don't think I'd have had as much if he hadn't of kept going on about it so much! Those who attended were Fernando, Ashleigh, Ashleigh's mum (I'm not sure I got a proper introduction), Ashleigh's brother Alex and a Korean bloke called Gerard (apparently he has a tendency to bring Asian boys with him to these sorts of gatherings, because he's an English teacher, although people were commenting on how they thought it was a bit odd behind his back), me, Sammy, Indi, Chats, Emilie, Dane, Allen, his wife, Mara and Dan (who was supposed to be playing football but it got cancelled because the pitch was waterlogged).
