Got up early and walked to Tian'amen Square to visit Mao. That took all of 3 minutes and then we headed up to the Forbidden City which I had never realised was so close by! We went in and decided to find a guide to show us around - I had been before and it's so vast and there's so little information available that we thought it would be the best way to find out what it was all about. We found a lovely lady called Lulu and haggled her down to 100 yuan for an hour and a half tour. It was definately worth it as we learnt a lot about the Emperors who lived there and the lives of the concubines and eunochs that served them. From here we went into Jing Shan Park where we were able to get some great pictures of the Forbidden City from the pergodas as it was such a clear day. Then to Bei Hai park where we stopped to watch an opera singer giving a lesson a large crowd of locals. Finally the cold got the better of me (it was -10) and we got a taxi back to the hostel to try and warm up. Hannah came over to the hostel for the evening and we had a good catch up on the gossip of TTC and all the interns.
