Had be at the school gates for 8:10 this morning so that we could attend the opening ceremony for the new term. Unfortunately no one came to meet us and therefore we missed the ceremony - it later transpired that we had been told the school gates but the person who was supposed to be meeting us was told the staff room!! After that we hung around until 10:20 when I had my first lesson. I was amazed to be greeted by a large cheer as I walked into the classroom - I'm not sure they've ever seen an English person before!! Anyway, the lesson went more or less to plan despite them being very reluctant to speak in English when I asked them to write things down it was obvious that their level of English is actually very good, they just need to do some work on their pronunciation. Hannah and myself went to the supermarket at lunchtime and then this afternoon I had another 4 lessons which got progressively easier as I went through the afternoon and realised what worked and what didn't. The only problem is how I learn all their names!! I have already taught 5 classses of 50 students and I have another 9 classes this week - that's 700 names to learn! And I'm only here for 5 months!!! This evening we went on a mission to try and find a bar so we could have a beer to celebrate having survived our first day. I can't believe that a town with a Macdonalds and a KFC doesn't have a bar! Eventually we did find a back street cafe which let us have beer and even through in a free plate of cabbage!!
