Decided today that I need to check that my tooth was okay with a dentist who could actually speak English, so I made an appointment and set off early for the International Friendship Clinic in Beijing. It took less time to get there than expected, but luckily there was a Starbucks just up the road and so I treated myself to a Dark Cherry Mocha whilst I was waiting. The dentist was lovely - spoke perfect English and explained everything to me. I was really happy to have found a dentist I could feel safe with and everything was going well until I got the quotation for work - it was 17,000 yuan (£1,700)!!! Obviously I'll be cancelling that appointment and hoping it lasts out until I get home to me National Health dentist!! Had our private tutoring session this evening and then we decided to go to Datang as we had been told there was an American singer there tonight. We were very excited about hearing someone sing in a language we could actually understand! We met Sophie and found a seat near the stage but it turned out he was a student at Beijing university studying Chinese and so he only did one song in English!! After the show the manager of the club Mr Guo invited us (and a few others) to join him for drinks which we did, and then later we all went on to KTV. It was a very bizarre experience. We were shown into a room, and then about 13 girls appeared and we were asked to choose 5 to join us!! It was really embarrasing, especially when Mr Guo then rejected one of our choices!! We stayed and sang for about an hour and then went home at about 5.
