Went on a mission to find a Tibet Tour today with a company which would then take us through the Friendship Highway into Nepal. Firstly we started with the CITS - they priced us up a trip which came to much more than we'd anticipated. It seems if you are to go to Tibet the government puts so many restrictions down that it becomes a costly exercise. You have to pay for permits to visit the area, a guide to show you around and you must stay in 3* hotels. In addition, because we wanted to go to Nepal we had to hire a 4 wheel drive and a driver. Went to visit one of the other popular hostels to see if they could do anything and if we could find some more people to share the costs with. The manager at Leo's was really helpful and confirmed a lot of the things CITS had told us, but still managed to come in a bit cheaper. Unfortunately he didn't have anyone else who wanted to go with us but we decided to bit the bullet anyway. He also did us a deal to stay at the hostel so we said we would move in tomorrow. Went out for dinner tonight with some people Amit knew from work - we all went to a nice restaurant near the Silk Market.
