Meet Charlie at school at 7:50 and we walked to the train station to try and buy my tickets for Xi'an. We arrived at 8:20, and despite all the signs saying that the ticket office opened at 8:00, it clearly wasn't. Charlie asked some of the station staff why, but no one had any idea! He suggested we get the bus to a travel agent he knew which aold train tickets so we did. It was crazy there - no one stood in a queue and you just had to push forward and ask questions whilst the assistant was serving about 3 other people at the same time! Anyway, Charlie did all the pushing required and found out that all tickets have been sold for the half term week. He was telling me on the way back that the way it works is that government can buy tickets 15 days in advance, travel companies 10 days, and the public 5 days - he thinks probably the travel companies have taken all the tickets knowing it will be a popular destination. The problem is that if you book through a travel company you have to book a whole tour which can work out pricey. Spoke to Casey, and we're going to look into the bus - apparantly there is one which has beds on it! This afternoon I had a lesson with a student who asked me a few weeks ago to give him an English name. I named him Cameron (after my nephew) which he was happy with, but he wanted to know what it meant - I hadn't realised this was important to the Chinese people. Anyway, I promised I would look it up, and was then a bit concerned to find it meant 'crocked nose'! Not noing how to tell him this I focused on the bit I'd found on the internet about a brave man defending Scotland and just skirted over the literal meaning!
