Got up early for our Mandarin lesson then we both realised that we had missed calls from Miss Cao and so called her to find out that the lesson had been cancelled. She also told us that the school wanted to invite us and Hannah's family for a Christmas Dinner meal as a previous English teacher was also in Huairou today. Hannah explained that her family weren't coming to Huairou until tomorrow and so Miss Cao said she would ask them to change it to tomorrow, We went about the day - getting our nails done, watching films and preparing for the private lesson with Kate. Then, at about 4:15 Hannah went to see the Korean school about the performance planned for Saturday. I continued with the lesson prep until 5:15 when I suddenly get a call from Hannah to say the Christmas Dinner has not been postponed and we are expected at the hotel at 5:30!! I dashed around leaving various messages for Kate in case we couldn't get hold of her on the phone, and arrived there 5 minutes late. Also there was Miss Cao, Mrs Liu (the Dean), Mrs Liu (head of English), Mr Wong (Dean's assistant), another teacher from Grade 1, Flo (the preious English teacher from Germany) and his Chinese girlfriend. It was nice although there was a lot of speaking in Chinese which obviously we couldn't understand but Flo was also in the same position. We had moved our lesson with Kate to 8:00, so we had to get back for this, but arranged to meet Flo and his girlfriend at 10:00. As it happened the lesson was only an hour long and so we had time to relax and have a beer before going out again. We meet up with them and I was interested to check out a coffee bar which Flo had mentioned that he used to frequent. It was in an area which we had completely overlooked, and was absolutely amazing!! It was a real bar! With real beer...and spirits! The only thing it lacked was customers! We were taken to a private room but I asked if we could stay in the bar so we sat at one of the high tables next to the bar. The bar was not massive but had a nice cosy feeling to it and on each table was a logic puzzle - there was also a dart board. We had a beer and then Flo and his girlfriend left and we had a few more drinks. After the third one, at 2:00, I asked what time they closed and they just said whenever! Fantastic, a bar that opens to my requirements!! Finally left at 3:00 and walked the short distance home. Will definately be going back - especially as we were given VIP cards as we left!
