Back to school today and started advertising English Corner to my students - I even managed to get a round of applause from my students (in 2 classes) when I wrote Chinese characters for the place we would be meeting on the board - they seemed to be well impressed!. The Grade 2 students (my year) get a free period on a Thursday afternoon and so the teachers thought this would be a good time to do it although when I told them later that I was starting this week, they said the timetable had changed for this week and they wouldn't get a free period!! Will have to try again next week! The lesson this week is on English surnames which is a bit dull but I tried to liven it up by linking it to their surnames. I was really surprised to find that none of them know where their names come from - I just thought that given what a proud nation they are, their heritage would be more important to them. Dinner in MacDonalds tonight - I just can't face Chinese food at the moment!
