Went looking for birthday cards at lunchtime today, but they don't seem to be a big thing here. We found one shop selling them but there were just a stack of about 20 in about 3 designs and they all had Chinglish writing on them - Chinglish is when they have done a direct translation of English into Chinese with no regard for the English meaning or spelling - it is widely used in China and often results in some really funny signs and quotations. School was okay and this evening we went out to eat. On the way out we took some glass beer bottles back to the shop we have recently started buying them from and were shocked that he gave us half a yuan (4p) back for each one returned. I felt I was robbing him as this was already the cheapest beer we have found in China - 2.5 yuan (20p) for a 600ml bottle!! Went to bed early tonight as I was so cold!!
