20 Sep 2008
Early start for our new job at the Korean school - lessons started at 8:30 so we had to be there at 8:00 for last minute preparation. I took the first 2 lessons, and then went home and waited whilst Hannah did the 3rd and 4th periods. We decided this afternoon to take a trip to the Great Wall at Mutianyu which is only about 20 minutes from Huairou. We set off to the place where we are normally inundated with minibus drivers hassling us to take us, but they must now know our faces as no one bothered us at all! Eventually we found a driver and haggled her down to 10 yuan a person for the trip out. As we drove up to the wall I was just amazed at the magnitude and the beauty of the place - it was absolutely stunning. We decided to take the cable car to the top and walked along the wall - there were quite a few people there, but apparantly this is one of the lesser visited sections depite it being one of the best - perhaps because it is a bit of a trek from Beijing. The scenery all around the wall is so dramatic and it was a shame it was a little hazy as it meant the photos could not capture it all. We stayed there for about 2 hours and then haggled for a minibus back which we shared with an American photographer. He had visited many sections previously and said that this was by far the best - he is going back next week for a photo shoot. This evening we went to food street and then onto Disco 9.
