Korean classes this morning. I arrived a little early to be told that there were 10 students from the Chinese school who wanted to join my class, but that there were only 2 spaces. I was asked to interview them all and pick the best 2. I suggested we ran an extra class to fit them all in as Hannah and myself could cover it, but Connie said she couldn't cope with it - in fairness I don't think she could! We went down to meet them all and I asked if I could use a classroom but they said they wanted me to interview them in front of the class! With only a limited amount of time, I gave them each a dialogue and we did a quick role play each. Then I had to make a decision. It was horrible having to turn away people who actually want to learn English - especially when there are so many in that class who don't. Anyway, I made a bit of an error - I had marked them all out of 10 and I read out the first name and then realised that I had 2 other people above her - she was so happy I couldn't then tell her I'd got it wrong! Connie had gone and Mrs Liu (head of the Korean School) was there - she doesn't speak any English and so I had to get one of the students to ask her if I could choose 3! Luckily she agreed, but it was still horrible turning the other students away. Korean class was hard work - one of the Students,Justin, just won't stop talking (not about the lesson). I called him outside in the end and had a word, but then when he went back into the classroom he was totally silent and the whold class seem depressed.
