Had the teaching day from hell today. The culture corner pages which I have to teach were on 'Romanticism Poetry' and there is no way on earth of making the comparison between Wordsworth and Li Bai interesting to 17 year olds. On top of that it seems they liked the games last week and thought that's what we should do in every English lesson. I tried to drag them through it with promises of fun next week for Christmas but to no avail - they just talked through all the lesson - every class!! Went home in a very bad mood, but had to snap out of it as we had a new private student tonight. Kate is a lovely 16 year old girl who lives around the corner from our school. I was a bit confused because she says she will start school next year but at the moment she just stays at home. I asked if she went to another school or college, or if she worked, but it seems she really does just stay at home! We are teaching her for 2 hours a week but it seems it will be fun - her English is not so good but she is nice and very keen to learn.
