Didn't get in until 6 this morning so spent the morning in bed catching up on sleep. This afternoon I went to the shops looking for envelopes which appear to be very difficult to get! Afterwards we went for dinner and then did some lesson planning. About 9pm all of our lights went out. This is happened a few times and normally we just have to flick the switch on the fuse box, but this time it just kept going off. We decided we would need to go and get help but when we got to the front door it was stuck shut! Tried knocking on some of the other flats in our block but either they were asleep or ignoring us so we set about trying to unstick the door which eventually we did. We went to the guard on the gate and explained (with our best gestures) our problem. He went to fetch someone else who came out in his boxer shorts and flip flops to have a look. He explained the problem to us but obviously not being able to understand what he was saying we had to phone one of our Chinese friends to translate for us. It turned out that the electricity is on a meter and we had run out of money. The guy who was helping us kindly then drove us to the place where we could buy some credit then brought us back and showed us how to apply it to the metre. He did then charge us 20 yuan for his services but at least we had electricity again!
