Just one day of teaching this week as the students have exams, and so I decided to do a lesson of games revising the vocab they have learnt so far this term. It seemed to go down well. Went to see Miss Cao just before lunch to see how she was doing with the list of things we gave her last week to sort out, and to pass on the gas bill. She had done quite a lot for us - got agreement on the school paying our bills, sorted out a room for English corner and agreed that she would do our Mandarin lessons. The bad news was our pay for the extra work we do at the Korean school. Apparantly the school had now said that our contract is with them, and therefore we can only be paid one third of what was originally agreed as they will pay us in line with our main salary. Of course this is China and contracts don't really exist and so we have no leg to stand on. Went to see Connie after school and told her I wasn't prepared to give up my weekend for this pay and therefore I will do this week, but no future ones. She understood and said she would feel exactly the same way but was annoyed that this couldn't be done directly through the Korean school who are happy to pay us the higher rate. Hannah is going to stay on as she still wants the money even at the lower rate and she may take over my lessons which will be good, but for me only having limited time here, it doesn't make sense to lose a day a week for less than a 10 pound of pay.
