Day 158: 7/6/13
Last day of work until September!! Wahoo!!!!
This morning we had assembly. They had the usual pupils of the week and stuff, but they also had a piano recital. Around 6 kids played the piano. I've little girl, I'd say about 7, played the piano with her grandfather. They did Waltzing Matilda- she played the melody and he played the accompaniment- it was unbelievably cute!! The principal was there today. The last time they had assembly she wasn't there. Tody she kept cutting in to tell people what to do or to change what the kids had said. She seemed to be in a big rush. I hadnt seen too much of her over my time there, but I wasn't expecting that! The rest of the staff are relaxed!
After assembly they had their fruit break while I read them a story. Then they had music so I had free time. They didn't give me another class to go to- the vice principal said I could have a break!! That was good as they had writing that I had forgotten to correct yesterday! At lunch time they had a meal deal. They had ordered pizza, a muffin and some fruit juices. All the muffins and juices were delivered to the classroom and we went to the hall to collect the pizza. The music teacher brought them back early so we were the first class over there- they were delighted!! Apparently it cost $3 for each item, ie $3 per slice of pizza. There were some sausage rolls, pizza and biscuits in the staff room for the teachers. There were a whole load of visitors there too. I think they were from a different primary school and they were coming to see how these had laid out their classrooms and their open learning areas. Thankfully the class I was in isn't open- it's the only one in the school!!
After lunch they had time to finish up work- most of them were finishing their writing. Then they did their inquiry. They worked properly at it this time, although they were a little chatty. My usual hero didn't do much work but for once he wasn't disrupting the class so I let him off! Some of the visitors came in and wandered around. They commented on how there was a lovely atmosphere in the room! I'd say it was because I wasn't making them do any work!!!
After snack I showed them a PowerPoint about Ireland and they were really good for it. I probably should have done it earlier in the week as they had loads of questions and we ran out of time!! They still ran out the door though at 3:30 so I guess they weren't too enthralled!!!
After school I went to the vice principal as he had been the person in charge of me. He had told me before he'd ask for me, so obviously getting the last four days there was thanks to him. He was always very thankful and said every day- we appreciate you're work. But, when I told him I wouldn't be back he got up to shake my hand and thank me. They're compliments here are always very informal- you've been a star, you're a champ! He said again that he appreciated my work there. It's always nice to hear that- I don't know if I've heard it too often to be honest!!
After school I went to the travel agency to speak to the woman about the super claim as I had forms to give her back. She wasn't there Wednesday or Thursday so it had to be today, but she was gone home sick. Typical!! I left the forms for her anyway so hopefully she'll sort it out! If she can't I can do it when I go home anyway. I think there should be about 500 to get back in super. There's more in the account, but you get taxed fairly high on it.
The main aim this evening was to do a big wash so all my clothes would be clean when I pack them tomorrow. I arsed around for a while finishing a book before I put on a wash. Of course the washing machine decided to act up and didn't rinse the clothes properly. They seemed to be washed but just sipping wet! It costs $4 to wash then again and you have to wait around so I just put them in the dryer. When the cycle was up they still weren't dry of course so I had to do another round in the dryer!! I was planning on getting an early night as I was tired and have a headache but it won't be too early, waiting for these clothes to dry!!
