Day 138: 18/5/13
I had a nice sleep in this morning. I had breakfast in the cafe downstairs and arsed around reading a book. I went to the travel centre aswell to see did they have any deals on buses or trips but they didn't really.
I met Laura in town at 3. We were intending on going to an exhibition of Hollywood costumes but there was a huge queue so we decided to do it another day and we looked in a few shops for a dress for her for the wedding. We found one that was lovely. She didn't but it today but its in a department store aswell as the shop itself so she should get it again no problem if she decides to go with it.
We went for dinner then in a restaurant that Laura had heard about. It had all Thai food - it was lovely. She knew there was a rooftop bar so we said we'd go up for one drink. It was cool- you could see all the high rise buildings all around and look down at all the traffic. There were heaters there thankfully, otherwise it would have been too cold!
We weren't there too long when a guy came over to say hello. We were at a long table and I think they just wanted somewhere to sit because next thing a gang of them had taken over the table!! Of course, they were Irish. Two of them were from Caherciveen- one of them knew Elaine and Ann-Marie. One was from Offaly but only a few minutes outside Ballinasloe so he had a Galway accent! Another one was from Portalington and he'd heard of Tadgh, even though he didn't really know him! Ireland is definitely small! The Caherciveen guy had played football with Donal keane somewhere too. They had a token Aussie with them aswell- I don't know he ended up surrounded by Irish people!
Anyway, we ended up having more drinks. They were chatting to us on and off- different ones at different stages! Then the pub closed and of course there was a night club underneath so we went in there for a while. It was a bit of craic! The lads were funny- you cant beat the Irish sense of humour! I hadn't been expecting to go out at all and jus had jeans and a cardigan and no make up or anything!! The state of me! Still, in Melbourne you can pretty much get away with anything!
We left around 3 and then spent ages trying to get a taxi for Laura as all trains and trams had stopped. We were I lg about 10 minutes away from the hostel so I was grand. Eventually we got a taxi to bring her anyway and I got home grand. It was four in the morning by the time I got home- that was a pretty long shopping trip (with very little shopping)!
