Day 99: 9/4/13
Work was back at 9:30 this morning so early starts again! We went through some problems people had yesterday and stuff like that first. They're saying to keep everything the same as before, just change their figures slightly. The good thing about using the other companies office is that we can't do any running around or wheelbarrow races or anything! Thankfully!!
We went out to turf and had some lunch. Loran, the Dutch guy, wasn't feeling well. When we got back in the van he told Andrew he might faint and not to call the ambulance. They were both sitting behind me. We were just wondering what was wrong with him! He said he had a condition and he'd be fine but don't call the ambulance. Next thing he fainted. He was in the back seat of the van so at least he had some room. Meaghan, one of the managers came back to him and kept talking to him and made sure he couldn't choke or anything. He seemed like he was having a fit or something then, like he was in agony. He was holding on to his head and bending over like he was screaming in pain but there was no sound. He woke up a little after about 10 minutes and said to ring someone on his phone but they were Dutch. Luckily we've another Dutch girl in the bus. We couldn't get through to the person he mentioned and then he was out again. When he came round again e said to ring his father. It was 4am in Holland but his father answered and said he'd be fine, that it used to happen a lot. He came around properly about 5 minutes after that and he was okay. He was upset and worried that it had happened him as it hadnt happened I a good while and he thought it was gone. He says it always happens more than once so Id say he's terrified it will happen again. He's only 18 and he's out here on his own really. He knows people in the hostel but I don't think he'd know them well enough for something like this. I felt really sorry for him. Apparently it's a problem with some vein in his liver and when it acts up he has a lack of oxygen and this happens. He was brought to the doctor anyway while we were at work and he was okay, but just really tired.
After all that we had to go knocking! It's hard to get used to the iPads as instead of streets were given blocks now. We can be on one section of a street and not have the house next door, or anything on the other side. We usually just look for signs of life and knock those doors first, but its hard to do that now when you're not on the one street.
I got a few bills but they weren't all going to be cheaper with me so I didn't push it. A lot of people have just changed and want to try it out.
Chloe came with me for a while then. We went back to a house Id been to in the morning where the Dad was going to be back later. The daughter was in her twenties and knew a lot anyway but just needed the Dad to find the bill. She had the bill when we went back and she was on higher rates. She was happy to sign. Then the father appeared again. He didn't speak English but apparently another daughter had just electricity company anyway a few weeks ago. So Chloe told them it was fine. We're here to make sure they're not locked in a contract. When the sister comes home they can look it all up and cancel if they wish. So they went ahead but they're definitely going to cancel later I'd say!! I wouldn't have gotten the sale if Chloe wasn't there but I don't think it will matter as the company they had changed to are fairly cheap. The daughter was fairly with it and knew a lot about it so when they compare it I'd say its a definite cancel!
After that I didn't get any more sales. A few got the bill, but still weren't interested. One guy seemed interested and said to step inside for a second as he was busy for a few minutes. His wife was there too. When he came back he just wanted to know about Ireland- the food, our didldidl music and clop clop dancing! He had no interest in electricity or getting his bill or anything. It was very strange so I left fairly quickly!
I didn't get anything else then, so just finished on the one that Chloe more or less got for me. Everyone is sort of getting 1 or 2 only in our van.
I was wrecked this evening. The full day of walking and talking s*** takes it out of you! I intended to read a bit of my book and then go to bed early, but then I was talking to another German girl who just came here the other day. She's been in Asia and was in Ireland aswell so we were talking about that for a good while. The other two Germans came back then so was chatting to them too. It ended up being late then when I wanted an early night!
