Day 149: 29/5/13
Dad rang this morning- he's starting the new job next week. They finally have him all the details!!
I got a call at about twenty past 7 to go to a school I hadn't been to before, near where yesterday's school was. It takes long enough to get to that one so I asked if it was near the train station and be hummed and hawed and said I might need to get a bus or something aswell. Then he said thanks and goodbye!! I was raging! It's hard enough to figure out where you have to go without having to get two different modes of transport!! I don't think he even had a clue where it was he just wanted to say he'd sent someone there! I left anyway as quickly as I could and about a minute later someone else from the agency rang and they said they had just gotten a call from the school I was on last Friday, one I've been in a lot and they wanted me today. So she said to forget about the one they had just rang for and to go here instead! So that was a lot better, but still I was probably going to be late as I usually get a ten past 7 train when I'm going there!! At least I know this school so if I'm a bit late its not a huge drama!
I had 5/6's today. I was in one 5/6 class for a while and they were lively enough so I wasn't sure what to expect for this one. The teacher next door had organised some work. First, all three 5/6 classes mixed up for a Maths activity. I called out the sums and they wrote down the answers. Simple enough! Afterwards they did reading groups. I was with one group and the others worked on fairly quietly. There were a lot of chatty boys but they did a bit of work anyway! After break we ha Maths and for this they had to see how many shape they could make with six cubes. They had to draw the shapes then on isometric dot paper. They were really good for this- they really concentrate and got loads of shapes. I was challenging them to get more than me. I got 17 and two of them got 24 so they were delighted! I had loads of fun too!! That too up all the time before lunch and we still didn't have time to look at all the different shapes they could make! After lunch we were supposed to talk about global warming and look up different websites and books to see how credible and relevant the information was. We had started discussing global warming and explaining what they had to do. Then they told me they had computers so we had to pack up and go there. They still did the global warming activity there though but they were fairly noisy. Once they are out of the class they think they can chat. We managed not to disrupt the school anyway and they got their work done and we got back to class! One woman who does learning support came in looking for sheets which had printed while we were in there but some of the kids had moved the sheets from the printer. She wasn't impressed!!
I hadn't had grade 5 and 6's properly for a good while. I'd only had release and they always play up during that time because they know you're only there for an hour. I really liked the last few days I had with the younger classes and I was wondering if I'd manage 5/6's again but I really enjoyed today. They were full of chat alright but they made me smile so they were delighted with that, hoping I'd write a good note for the teacher, which I did! I definitely prefer doing the more interesting work with 5/6's even though its much easier to keep the younger ones quiet!
I went to the pharmacy when I got back into the city to get my perscription filled. The chemist said he would have given me 48 tablets but he didn't have them today. I just said I'd take the 24 because I checked with Annmarie and she said the tropical medical bureau told her shed only need 22. It's a good job because the 24 cost me $160! I probably won't get the other 24 I'd say as it sounds like I don't need them anyway!
I was tired this evening. It's been late enough the last few nights when I've gone to sleep so I just spent the evening reading really and on the Internet.
