Day 120: 30/4/13
Today I was back in the school I was in three days last week. I'm getting to know my way around that school now! It was teacher release again. Some teachers were just owed some time off I think so I was covering an hour in each class.
I had a 1/2 class first. They were doing reading groups. One group were on the laptop working on sounds and things. Another group do readers theatre. They have a script that they read through and there's a little stage and props and everything for them to practice acting if out. They really love that! Another group do a written activity based on their group. The final group work with the teacher concentrating on a specific reading activity. My group today were trying to find the main idea in a text. The groups seem to really work well as all the children are busy, but you also have specific time where you can focus on a particular group. They swap around during the week so you get to see all groups. Ill definitely be trying to bring in something like this- it will be interesting to see how it works in a small confined classroom!
Then I was with a 5/6 class. They team teach so the other teacher was there anyway. There's also a student teacher there and he was teaching so I didn't have to do anything really! He was teaching about global warming and they had a quiz to figure out their own carbon footprint, which was really interesting! They enjoyed it.
After lunch I had the 1/2 class again who were writing words with long o sound- ow and o_e. They wrote down some from the board and then had to search in books in the classroom for some more.
Then I was with preps. They have a student teacher too so I just had to watch again! She was supposed to do a simple aboriginal story on the whiteboard but the Internet was down so she read them a different one bit it was too hard and brought all sorts of questions about spirits and things! She knew it hadn't worked really and was annoyed about it! But knowing it didn't work is the main thing! They wrote a little about their weekends then, continuing on from yesterday.
After recess I was with a 3/4 class. They had library time first so they just had to return and borrow books. Afte that they were writing their learning goals. They had started it before and just needed to do their good version, but some of them did very little!
The teachers here all seem nice and the kids are good- plenty are full of devilment, but they are good! The vice principal said afterwards that they will have more work so I should be back their again.
I got a call around half 5 again for work tomorrow, which was good. They must ring around that time to organise the next day. The school seems to be a good bit away so it will be an early start again. The train website isn't working so Im not sure how early I have to be up yet, but I'm guessing pretty early!
So I didn't do much else for the evening- just looked up a few things on the Internet, dossed a bit, etc!
