Day 72: 13/3/13
Today was only 25 degrees so way, way cooler than yesterday! Hopefully it stays like that! It seems most of the tes did pretty bad yesterday so they were drilling the pitch into us in the morning. The main boss was going over it, how the rates are incorrect and he can fix them. He would definitely have people signed up without them knowing, but there's abosutely no way Id buy from him. You can tell he's full of crap! He reminds me of a Geordie shore type character. Getting you psyched in the morning involves having dance music blaring- you can imagine how thrilled I am with that.
I went out with Chloe this morning again and she signed up an old Indian lady. I don't know if she knew what was going on! Any time people weren't interested she was narky enough- you don't want cheap bills? You want to pay higher rates than your neighbour? Etc. The customers always got really narky back then.
Around 2 she decided she would leave me on my own, which I wasn't expecting so early. I sold one by 3 which was good. It was too an old lady. I thought she was about 60 but when I got her date of birth she was actually 80! She knew what I was talking about and wanted cheaper rates. She had a fairly good rate, but our one was better (as far as I could make out) and she wanted a cheaper rate so she was more than happy to sign up. When you've signed you have to do a verification call to make sure you haven't conned them. But she didn't know what they were saying so they didn't want to verify her. I had to do it 3 times. I left feeling really bad, although she will be getting a cheaper bill. I just was afraid that it wasn't that much cheaper and shd kept saying she hoped she was doing the right thing and her son would probably give out to her. But she wanted to sign it anyway, so I don't know! I showed her where to call to cancel it for free within 10 days and told her to get her son to check it, so that's all I can do!! If they cancel I lose the sale, but I wouldn't mind if she cancelled.
After that I was less confident when I should have been more confident! Lots of people wanted to know more about the numbers compared to their companies and I know nothing about their companies! So I think I need to do some research. If I know my facts I think I can sell it, but at the moment I'm expected to sell by pulling figures out of thin air, which I can't do! I can't blatantly lie! So I probably won't sell much!! I'd prefer to have one honestly though than 10 by lying!
I think I'm going to learn a lot of new skills anyway doing this job, even if I don't make a penny! I'm already getting used to talking to people. I found everyone really nice and I was very nice to them so there was no awkwardness or b****iness from anyone. But I suppose I wasn't pushy! We'll just have to see how we go! I don't know why though you can't go to the door and just tell them you can save them money- that would get Irish people's attention. There is an Irish girl in the company who averages 7 a day - I would put money on it that she doesn't use the pitch!!
Anyway, I was wrecked after work. It was after eight when I got home. I was ready for bed at 9, but I woke up again and now I'm wide awake! I'd say I'll be wrecked in the morning though!!
