Day 140: 20/5/13
Up bright and early waiting for the call. The last two Mondays they rang at 6:40 and 6:50 so I was expecting one around the same time, but I didn't get one. I went downstairs for breakfast and rang to say I was available and they said they'd ring back by 7:30, as I was a guaranteed teacher. By twenty past there was still no call so I went to the train station anyway. Eventually, just before half past I got a call to go to a school that's just a few stops away. I had plenty of time to get there- I didn't really need to get a train until about 8am. It would be lovely if I could have this school all week!!
While I was waiting for calls and trains I was looking at hoganstand comments on the Galway game. Mam had text the result anyway and it didn't sound good. The comments on the forum weren't too complimentary! Worst defeat against Mayo in 60 years or something! Not good!!
Anyway, today I got the call for a 3/4 class but when I got there it was for teacher release instead. This was the school I had done a week of teacher release in before so I've been in every class in the school an they are fairly okay. The 5/6's are mouthy enough but grand. I had 5/6's first for drama. They were in groups working on scripts and deciding who was going to say what part. That was fine after they stopped messing about who would do what part! Then I took the same class to Chinese, but as I don't do Chinese the class teacher just told them to do their writing. They have stories and poems and things that they haven't finished and they were editing or publishing them. They were fairly good because it was pretty boring! It rained for half of lunch time so I was inside with them while they ate, then it stopped raining so they could go out. After lunch I had the same class again for art. Open day is tomorrow so the teacher just had some art works that other classes had started and she wanted finished off. There were cylinders that they had to wrap wool around, a bike wheel they had to decorate with wool and beads and some posters to make. That was pretty boring for them too. After that I had another 5/6 class and they were doing the exact same art lessons. An hour is a long time to wrapping wool around a cylinder for them, two hours was crazy long for me!! After break I was in a 1/2 class. I don't know where the teacher was gone but the vice principal just said play games or do whatever you want with them so I played the tin whistle, taught the Ratlin bog, they had a few minutes of free time and then they played silent ball. They have a ball and they throw it around the room. If they make noise or hit anything they are out, so they are usually fairly good!
Release is great as you have nothing to write up at the end of the day. The teachers know what you did anyway. So I was sitting on the train at five to four, whereas last weeks school no matter how early I was I wouldn't even have finished the walk to the train station by 4! The vice principal said he'd keep asking for me at this school so hopefully they will have other days. It makes life way easier!!
I was wrecked this evening, despite being home earlier than usual! I just went on the computer for a while to try to sort out again where I might go in the east coast! I've changed my mind a few times about things I want to do so we'll see where I end up!! Ill probably try to book the bus ticket this week if I get around to it. I read for a while then and went to bed early. I seem to be more tired today after my late night Saturday than I was yesterday!
The agency didn't call this evening. I rang them around half five but they didn't have anything yet for tomorrow. I don't know if things are awful quiet or are they just getting lazy! The call this morning was really late too. Hopefully they won't be that late the next time!!
