Day 66: 7/3/13
Laura wasn't teaching today so we were chatting for a good while in the morning. She is the after school care then in the afternoon.
I spent a lot of the day looking up jobs and accommodation. I must have sent at least 50 emails and some texts aswell. Not much response so far.
I did get a text this evening to go for an interview at 11am tomorrow morning. It didn't even say what it was exactly or what ad it had been for. I think it's a sales job but I'm not sure!!
Mam Skyped this evening and Noreen was there too. They are cleaning out Nanas house already, which seems awful early but I suppose it has to be done. The sons and daughters are each keeping something from the house. Daddy got a china teaset that was bought the same year he was born. I can't remember who bought it or why it was bought. Sean got a sacred heart picture with all their names signed on it. Noreen got pictures of horses that Padraig bought for her years ago that Nana liked and put up, not knowing that they were meant for Noreen. Mary was talking a platter that belonged to Nanas grandmother which she will pass on to Jane. Nanas wedding ring will be passed onto the first great grandchild. I don't know about the rest of them. They were asking if I wanted anything. I didn't know what was there even but I knew it would be nice to have something. So Noreen was going to give me a station of the cross thing that had been on the mantelpiece. I can use that in school anyway. I wanted to take pictures of the kind of patchwork quilts and vestments she used to make aswell. I wouldn't have any use of them but it would be still nice to remember them. Mam told me they have a video of the funeral aswell which she will sound out. I wasn't sure at first if I'd want to watch it out here, but if I leave it until I go home, its a long time away.
They said that Sharon Kelly had sent a card to the house commiserating with the family on Nanas death and how she often have her a lift to the church when she was going to school in the morning. She said Nana was always in great humour and had a smile. Her kids called her Our Mrs Glynn. That was lovely to hear. Mam remembered that Nana commented that everyone knew Mrs Glynn and she knew noone! She also remembered how Patricia gave Nana a lift and Nana told her how mam gets a lift to work with some woman in the mornings!!
All that Skype call was fairly emotional! I was holding back the tears a few times. Then I checked the blog and Margaret and Mary had written a commentary on the funeral, which brought some more tears.
I couldn't sleep a wink after that- I had nana, funerals, videos, interviews, jobs, accommodation.... And a million things going around in my head! I went on YouTube then as Mam said Alva had played Anach Cuain at the funeral, NAna being from Annaghdown. I read a bigt about it and then listene to Liam Clancy singing it. I got distracted then and started watching videos of Liam Clancy and Tommy Makem. I found a concert that Daddy has a tape of and the whole concert is on YouTube- each track separately. The person that put them up is called menbehindthesweaters and they are called National Stadium 77. There's 25 different tracks. I knew I liked Tommy Makems track- with a ring ting, ting a ling, ting, ting a li-do.... Or whatever he says! I practically had to listen to all 25 tracks to find it as it was called the Cobbler. It makes more sense when he's pretending to cobble than just listening to him on a tape!
After that I watched videos of Dolores Keane singing and some of her with Mary Black, Maura O Connell and Frances Black. Not the kind of stuff to watch when you're sad anyway!
So I started watching Enda Scahill, Fergal Scahill and We Banjo 3 for a while. I was getting tired but I still couldn't sleep. I put on Norah jones for a while then to see could she put me asleep. I think I eventually fell asleep at 4am!
