Day 81: 22/3/13
This morning I was on time again, although I wish I hadn't been. This mornings 'fun' activity was piggy back races. Guys and girls had to be together and both had to lift each other. I was with a guy from northern England or Wales or somewhere and somehow we didn't finish last! Thankfully we did it because the losers had to do an embarrassing forfeit!! The office isn't open on Sarurdays so at least I won't have another day of it tomorrow!
They set targets for each team this morning and if every team got their target everyone would be going to the pub for the evening and a bar tab would be put up. Our team were screwed straight away. Our total was 10 yesterday and today's target was 12. It sounds doable until you realise we were missing two people from yesterday! We were to get 12 between 4 of us!! We knew we hadn't a hope- which meant the other teams wouldn't get the bar tab either.
I had a crappy day enough on turf as a lot of the addresses on my walk sheets were crossed meaning I couldn't knock them. A lot of the ones that weren't crossed out had Do Not Knock stickers, so I couldn't knock them either. The ones I could knock weren't home. There was ages in the morning where I hadn't spoken to anyone. Eventually when I did get speaking to people they just said they weren't interested as soon as I said I was there in relation to the power. I did my best to keep them talking but they still weren't interested!
One guy loved the Irish and was in Ireland before. He didn't have a recent bill so he couldn't compare his rates properly. They had a carbon tax over here in January you see that put up all their prices. The rates on the bill he had weren't much dearer than the rates I was quoting. He believed me when I said they'd gone up but he wanted to see it for himself before he'd sign, which was fair enough! He wanted to ring up after he got the bill and credit the sale to me to help me out, but there's no way to do that!
I met an elderly English woman aswell who's husband had died in the past year. He used to look after the bills so she had no clue about them and didn't want to change. I didn't push her really but she kept chatting for ages about weather, schools, religion..... I don't know how we got on to that!!
The only other decent conversation I had was with a child who had come home from school and was locked out. He used my mobile to ring his parents and he said they'd be home in a minute. I waited a few minutes as I felt bad for him. But after about 5 minutes I figured I was wasting too much time so I went on and told him I'd be back. When I came back I heard computer games inside but noone answered he door. There was a car there so you'd imagine whoever had come home would answer the door to see who had been talking to their child!!
Anyone, I sold nothing today. Chloe did one of the dnqs today, the other one wasn't home. So I got 1 officially. I think as a team we got 6- only half our target! As if we were going to get 12 anyway! That wasn't even close to realistic, considering the people that were left!
I've no idea if the other teams got their target. If they did, they'll be cursing us!
When I got home, Laura and Jamie were gone to the cinema so I had the house to myself. I decided I better watch the funeral DVD. The start was pretty emotional- just seeing the coffin, the picture on it and bringing up the gifts straight away. Also, seeing everyone on camera made me miss everyone, but I was glad to see ye all too- if that makes sense!
As the Mass went on it was easier to watch as the things that were said were lovely. I loved how the priest said she was first into Mass and last out of Mass and leading all the prayers. Also, how she was spotted in Croke park at the Eucharistic congress! I won't forget how I sorted out her out with a raincoat for that and she told everyone that Geraldine had gone to great effort sorting her out! Also, Mary's comment about Nana telling the man she would fix the horse herself was typical!! The music was lovely and the instrumental bits really set the mood. It was a great idea too to have the girls wheel the coffin out- I think she'd be happy with that! It was nice to see so many people at the funeral too and the cameraman was very good at trying to show everyone. I spotted all the Stephens aunties, but most of the people I didn't know at all! Ye will have to fill me in when I get home. It was definitely a good idea to video it anyway. It was good to see it.
Its late now anyway and I have to work again tomorrow. We will have a knock off target so I hope to God we get some sales and get to go home early! Next week is a short week too as they have Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday off. So I'm almost halfway through my sales career really!
