I had my Christmas manicure from Grandpa booked in for 11 am, so I walked to Chapel Street. To me, my nails looked fine before but it occurred to me that whilst the lady was removing my cuticles, they would probably shock a manicurist. It wasn't quite the Elle and Paulette relationship in Legally Blonde, as they were all Asian, and talking amongst themselves, and I don't think they had a very good English vocabulary. I found it funny that I had to soak my nails in a thing that resembled a lemon squeezer. I was talking to Clem (one of my housemates) about my guitar the other day as he makes them, and I was trying to describe red and glittery to him in a way his English could understand, and so I decided on a red glittery polish as I remembered how much I love the colour of it. I had a picture of a cherry blossom nail art design so asked for that, but she said because my nails were so small she would only be able to do 2 flowers on each nail, which I said was fine.
Yesterday my contact lens wasn't sitting properly on my eye and it had developed conjunctivitis like crust this morning, and also I had something that resembled a cold sore on my lip- just what you want on New Year's Eve! Luckily the pharmacist gave me drops which I could still wear contact lenses n the evening with.
I hadn't meant to go shopping but this morning I realised I don't actually have any clothes apart from my new shorts, so I brought a playsuit and a dress from Topshop that I had seen before and really liked but didn't thing I particularly needed at the time. I knew as soon as I saw it that I had to buy it as it was on sale.
When I got back home, I was kind of twiddling my thumbs waiting for someone to come up with a plan for the evening. A few people were going to a party in Albert Park which at one point was rumoured to be $55 entry, and the next was rumoured to be free (it turned out it was free) but I wasn't ready to go when people left for that, so just stayed in the house until we went into the city to see the fireworks. The tram was really busy, as was trying to get anywhere. We watched them on Birrarung Marr (where the music events were in Melbourne Music Week). After that, we just came back to the house.
