Today I went with Mia and Lucas into town, to meet up with Samia, Victoria and Goffrey (all housemates) for lunch. I suggested Chinatown, and so we went to a Yum Cha place, which is a bit like going to a sushi bar in the way that you pick things up, from trolleys instead of a conveyor belt, and then just pay at the end, except it's more communal so that you all eat each other's food. My favourite dishes were the steamed pork buns (like the ones I used to go crazy for in 7-eleven in Thailand), and the ginger prawn wantons. We got a bowl of the sweet tofu to try between the table, but everybody else hated it so I got to eat the majority-it wasn't great but wasn't disgusting either. Samia and Mia brought some new shoes, and Lucas needed to pick up some stuff too, but I wanted to wait until going to Chapel Street so I could go to American Apparel, where I umm-ed and ah-ed and changed my mind a thousand times, but ended up buying some genuine disco pants (very shiny, 80s style leggings, which are definitely not what I need given it's probably going to get too hot to wear them fairly soon, but I knew I wanted them). Because Lucas works 6 days a week, and today happened to be his day off, he likes to treat himself and other housemates to a cheese and wine night. He had brought 2 bottles of red wine, one which is $50 and the other $26, and 2 cheeses, I'm not sure how much the other one cost but one cost $28 from a posh Harvey Nichol's type department store. I like being English as it means the French decide to take it upon themselves to 'educate' us- i.e. get to try both!
