The one task I hadn't had time for yesterday, was to exchange my shoes I had got in a 2 for $30 deal, for some more black shoes I can wear to work, since the ones I have currently, you don't wear them with socks and so have got a bit smelly with all the running around I've been doing. As I was about to head out the door, my Australian housemate, Zachary, who is from Perth, said he needed to get some socks from Big W, so we went into the CBD (central business district) together. Whilst Googling the restaurant that someone had told me about where you only pay what you want for whatever vegetarian dish they have cooked up for the day, I stumbled across a page of the wackiest restaurants in Melbourne, one of which was a sushi restaurant which did sushi burgers, where the buns are made of rice, and it's encased in a fold of seaweed, so I dragged him there for lunch, as I knew Yo! Sushi had done something for a short period of time that was very similar, but hadn't been in England to try it. I had the fried fish burger, but I don't think having it in a burger format made it particularly that much better or worse. It was raining, and had mis-communicated that we wanted to eat it inside, so ended up eating it under the shelter of a cafe, which we each brought a corona from. He had told me about a bar which was on the river, and so he dragged me there, despite me not really wanting to, but it was quite a cool place.
I have been trying to catch public transport which gets me to work in plenty of time, and tonight it was proven that that's a good idea, as my first tram I have to catch was late and so only just got there in time (I swear the clock at work speeds up when it knows I'm about to clock in- I always think I've got plenty of time before my 5 minute break is up, and then it always scares me that I clock out at exactly 5 minutes, 5 minutes seems to me a pretty pointless break anyway). One customer told me that you could apparently do really complex mathematics on an abacus, and so I promised him by the time he returns I'll have researched what you can use them for. I've been getting taxis back without realising that now I'm in Caulfield, I can actually get public transport home too, and whilst waiting for the second tram, the driver of a tram going back to the depot, kindly picked me up and gave me a free ride to my stop.
