I'm quite impressed with this hostel- for the price you get a really good breakfast including DIY pancakes, cornflakes, rice krispies, weetbix and both white and brown bread. I got up at 8 and enjoyed a peanut butter and chocolate pancake, and then went to get some black shoes and a top. I got sucked into the 2 pairs for $30 deal at Rubi (the shoe shop), because I thought if I needed some more trainer type black shoes I could always swap the other pair. I then got some food supplies from Woolworths and was quite impressed by their sushi bar, with people on hand to make to order items.
I think I've got the hang of the tram system now, although I didn't really think about timings to get to 'La Camera' for my trial at 12. I turned up a few minutes early, but it would probably have made a better impression if I'd have got there a tiny bit earlier. I met the owner, who is Italian, and then the Indian supervisor sat me down with the menu to study. He then went through the table numbers with me, although they really don't seem to make that much sense- outside is 80-84 and then 70, 71 and then inside goes 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 58, and 59. There are more tables than this, but those are the only ones used at lunchtimes. I accidentally dropped a spoon and put through the wrong order, and the Indian man sighed at me impatiently when I tried to work the point of sale machine, which is a lot harder to use than the one at Hogs Breath. Despite this the owner still offered me the job, but it only pays $14 an hour and he said he only keeps the best waitresses on, which makes me feel a bit unsecure that he could just drop me at any point, so I'm going to carry on working there until getting another job. The carbonara I got after lunch wasn't that great (bacon wasn't crispy enough!) and the pumpkin ravioli I got after dinner (accompanied by a glass of house white) was very bland.
On the way to my evening shift, I saw a group of boys performing a robot style dance by the tram which was pretty impressive, and on the way back saw a moving tram with 'Restaurant' written on the side which looks like it would be fun. I met up with Alice and Amanda who had been having a drink in one of the bars, but wanted to leave when I got there.
