From us both in Alotau!
We met one week ago in the very romantic location of the Domestic Air Terminal! Actually it's a nice building. I asked the security guard to let me go through in my heart rending Tok Pisin which moved him to tears! There was Ken oblivious to me as he thought I wasn't due for another 25 minutes. Was looking quite trim! Ok kids no more details!
I then went to get my bag and came out with my two travelling companions,Ben and the Lodge owner, Di. We then tried to find the hotel courtesy bus to not avail so left Ben and headed back to the café to wait for our flight here. It was great to catch up on all the news and although I thought I'd talk for England in fact it was Ken who chatted none stop!
Picked up at the airport in Alotau and brought here to Driftwood. So quiet it is wonderful. Staff attentive and even the music has been turned off when we appear!
Ken thought I looked tired and I probably was as I did sleep a lot the first few days and then back to normal.
We have explored the town. Very small even smaller than Madang but a very laid back atmosphere. The people are so slight which is why they are nicknamed the size 28 people! Thursday we were taken around the town and up into the high town where there is a wonderful view of the town and harbour below. Friday we went on a boat cruise, just the two of us. We visited three islands which were really interesting. Met a volunteer from Wrexham who is working on this beautiful tiny island, quite envious!
The final island is where we had lunch. Off came the table from the boat and two chairs and tablecloth, champagne, the works!! Sea beautiful turquoise colour and white sand beach. Then time to sail home.
Saturday we drove to the most southern part of PNG. So now we have been to both ends.
Today we woke VERY early to attend the ANZAC service, similar to our Remembrance Day but started at 5.30 am before dawn. It was a very moving ceremony.
