Today we went in our new car to visit the English Exam markers at Alexishaven which is a RC Conference centre and in a rather lovely spot. Standing up is my friend Mary from Good Shepherd School. We were very impressed with the system as we had been with the rigour that the exam is conducted. This is a Grade 10 exam called Written Expression [English] and is very important in the overall exam. There are two essays to do in two hours. We thought that the first question was quite difficult as it was an argument for or against MPs here getting more allowances when in the capital. The second was titled "A dog is a man's best friend" which we thought was odd for this culture where dogs are for hunting or guarding property!!
Each marker marks the first question and gives a mark and then a second marker does the same and if the two marks differ by more than 2 then the lead markers redoes it.
Had a great time with the markers at lunch. A great bunch who had in many cases worked together over the years.
