Here I am again having lost my saved word document. Thought that you'd like to see us working!!! This is us planning for next year when we will have all 8 schools to look after which will mean two schools to visit by banana boat so we're looking forward to that and the challenges! No doubt we'll be knackered by the end of each term so will need some holidays!!
Working with all the Education Volunteers was great. One set of pictures shows the Farewell dinner which was attended by three officials which is something that wouldn't happen here!! Lots of speeches and a nice touch when all the fellows were given shirts in the National symbols of the area. They look like a group of pixies!! Even the three Madang vols got one and we had only met these men twice.
The hotel was fine. Looked a bit like something from the wild west!! I kept expecting the huge gates to open and see indians coming in!! Anyway we were put in the executive wing as was our American colleague and Gerard our Manager. No hot water, well OK but the sheets looked as if a rat had eaten them! We splet Ok and then were to;ld all the other fellows had enjoyed hot showers etc etc. Charlye then told us that a rat had ran over her feet in the night! Anyway when we got back we all had been moved into much better rooms and hot water! Food was good and there is a Coffee Shop in town run by a French man so we had to try the cakes!!
We left on Friday morning at 6:45am for the long ride home. Not far from Kundiawea we were held up by a group of rough looking men who wanted money for repairing the road! At least they just had big spades and no guns! Gerard gave them K10 for both vehicles but they still took K10 from the other vehicle! Much shouting but no money was returned. So again off we went. Beautiful scenery and I took loads but through the window and I have only selected a few so that you're not bored!!
Forced to have breakfast in Goroka as one of our tyres was bald!! had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon! Very nice. Then did some shopping and picked up some artefacts for the first time here. The axe is quite impressive!!
Lunch was chips as there was no chicken but they were rather nice! Back on the road and got home at 4:30pm, bruised and battered fro being thrown around in the back. Charlye's boyfriend had called her and he picked her up from Goroka in the helicopter!!! he's a pilot and she had the cheek to call us an hour after we dropped her at the airstip to tell us she was home and the views amazing!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
That's all for now. reckon we deserve 5 stars!!
