Mother's Day - PNG style
Well I assume that in Australia and possibly New Zealand it's Mothers' Day which has been adopted here. It started yesterday for me when Samson, one of the gardeners was hanging around the house. He gave me a lovely orchid plant last week when he saw those that I'd bought on the way back from Brahman. He couldn't wait to wish me a happy Mothers' Day - a day early but they don't work on Sundays so it was very sweet of him.
Then today at Church all the mothers had to stand up and the young girls behind me prompted me, it is in Tok Pisin and the minister does speak quickly although with the references I had worked out that Mothers day was "THE" topic! It was really lovely.
THEN tonight Ken and I went for a walk and on the way back met Maureen and some of her girls. They had a flower arrangement for me. I saw the card attached but assumed it was a thank you for my "lesson" last Sunday but no it was a Mother's Day arrangement for me. So touching.
I'm hoping that she, Maureen, will agree to me giving the girls English conversation lessons in the future. She did bring it up so here's hoping! It's something I'd love to do.
A really lovely day. It did include cutting my hair …again and Ken's!
