Amazing what can happen in a week! Last Monday we came back to the office and met with Karen the Country Director. By Thursday we heard that VSO London wouldn't agree to her proposal. Thursday afternoon and young lady bumped into Ken when he was out walking and asked to see the car! She took it for a drive, offered him the amount we were going to ask for it! She is Australian and so she wanted to ask advice from home and offered us in AU$ exactly the equivalent we wanted in stirling!
Thursday Clara, the market lady from Chapel [left in picture] came to the office for us to help her with her CV. Very capable, well qualified lady.
Friday night we took two volunteers out for dinner and Sarah arrived to get Ken's bank details! So car goes this week when the money is paid in.
Saturday we had a busy day moving a colleague to another house and were busy with a number of things.
Sunday after Chapel we went out in the boat. We met the two in the picture on the way after picking Marshall up [he works in VSO on Education]. So we gave them a lift in our boat to the island where they live. They changed and came out with us on the boat! Neither had been to Jais Arben and in fact had only been on a boat between Madang and their Island!!! Both are from the Highlands and Lucy was actually a bit scared. Agter cold drinks and a basket of chips we returned not before we all got drenched but at least it's warm wet!
Then Ken and I went to our favourite restaurant for the last time before the car goes. Today one of Marshall's wantoks [extended family] came to see the boat and bought it! Ken has just returned after paying the cash into the bank!!
Now I'm off to take one of the girls in the office who wants to buy some household things!!
All happening! Today Ken heard that he could be leaving two weeks today! Via Singapore.
