11 kilometres 225m up 40m down

Yesterday update. Started with a Snapchat from Alice of Tilly’s birthday party. Made me come over all teary. Not sure why I love being here but emotions do seem heightened. Happy Birthday again Tilly you are amazing now and will be in the future.

Last night we booked ahead and managed to find the hotel relatively easily hotel Eslava on the Plaza Virgen was within metres of the Camino and we wound through the old part of town. We were beat and planned a rest.

We each had a small but comfortable room with our own bathrooms. We walked back through town and Jean bought a new pair of more comfortable shoes. We picked up some salad and salami and cheese for dinner with enough left over for lunch today.

Today’s walk was the first time on the path I walked three years ago. Parts were very familiar and others totally unrecognisable. The walk was gentle an after leaving at midday we were nearly at our destination by 3:45. The skies had been darkening for some time then thunder and lightning followed by huge hail as we walked into town big 0.8cm round pieces really stung on bare skin. So pleased to be snug in my bag in an albergue.

Just had a really weird conversation with a man in his underpants. All part of the rich tapestry of camino life.

Body is holding up really well. Feel much better for the light day today. It is hard to get enough recovery time. I walk slowly up and down but keep a good pace on the flat. Then we get to the hostel shower and wash clothes then go to bed. Hard even to text people the links to the blog because I had to change all the phone numbers to international codes. When you are tired it is really easy to make mistakes and delete you work on a mobile or repeat stuff. But jean and I are starting to get it all organised.
