Day 26 Tuesday 22nd
11km. 150 up and 105 down
Sunny day 27.5. 12 when we were leaving León
Some of my photos were spoiled by 4 or 5 cyclists wanting to take photos so parking there bikes on the fence around the Cathedral.
Some of our most interesting engagements are with local people. In a small village last week we stopped for refreshments I asked for cafe con carne the lovely signers said “cafe !!!?” I immediately said cafe con leche, chilli con carne, and she put both her hands on mine on the counter and we laughed. Carne is meat. Today we had a conversation (yes really) with an older man about where we came from and digging to NZ cos it is opposite Spain and what beautiful countries we have. He was so courteous and open. Happens most days but really puts a smile on your face.
Some days we get told off but that is rare. The day Jean was lost in a toilet (but that’s another story but I’ll just say the lights are on timers and if you are directionally challenged it can take some time to grope three walls!!!) for 10 minutes springs to mind. The signor saw her leave and go out to the terrace and thought she was not going to buy anything. All was well when she went back with her wallet.
The photo of the tiles is cos Kate wants them for vases!!!
Today was a bit of an effort. I have a cold and feel a bit lethargic and achy. It is so easy when you feel good and a bit hard when you don’t. However Jean was so brave a week or so back when she had tummy upset, that that has kind of set the tone and we do just get on with it.
We have ended up in a really nice albergue with a lovely garden even bring on the top bunk isn’t too bad.
