Day 23 Thursday 17 May
Calzadilla de la Cueza. 17 km. 75 up 40 down.
21 degrees low of 9. We are about to get a thunder storm but we are in our hostel so let it rain the countryside needs it.

The cover photo today is me posting a postcard to Jed. Ava you should be getting the card I sent you from Burgos 5 days ago.

The walk today was good I got tired toward the end, jean tried to cheer me up, “ it’s not far now” , but I wasn’t having any of that.

Our day is quite varied. We walked together in silence for nearly an hour and a half. Then we had a coffee break jean had tortilla. Called Home and answered messages. Then we walked separately for a bit then we had another stop and I had a bacon and eggs, coffee beer and water. Jean had a cup of tea. Then we played singing games for most of the afternoon. It starts by some one singing, say “oh what a beautiful morning” then we have to remember in turn all the songs we can with beautiful in them.

Sometimes we just talk and sometimes we shut up and listen to the cuckoos. We always make up stuff about people we see and what they are doing and why. We had an afternoon stop to post a card to Jed and have a mini magnum!! I know I thought we invented them too.

We mostly let each other get on with the walking and talking. Helping but each doing our own thing. Each evening we have a reckoning about who spent what and have a settle up.

We wash ourselves and our clothes when we get to the albergue and then have a wee lie down. Then we go for a walk to find food or to eat a meal. Then we go to bed. Interspersed through the day is foot care and sock change or air.
