Day 42 Tuesday 5th June
Hospital de Cruz to San Xulian
17km up and down
Had a great dinner last night. Cheese of the country and quince. It was a fresh white soft cheese with quince leather about 3mm thick. Eaten together with a knife and fork. Delicious. The waitress was a bit concerned that it was really a dessert. However it was just what I wanted.
Great sleep. It is a little concerning that I have shared a room so often with Lou and Tawna and others that I am becoming used to Lou’s snoring.
Had a call from Hugh that he had heard from Jill that Dad had a fall last week and had been unable to use his walker. The doctor has suggested a partial hip replacement and he is in Invercargill Hospital waiting for the surgery. I have tried to talk to him but no luck. I feel a long way away.
Today’s walk was totally in rain. Quite cold 9-11 degrees. The good thing was that there was no wind. Not so many pilgrims on the path and plenty of taxis. It really is helping us to stay between the main stopping places. Please can see We wore waterproofs all day. We left after 9:00 and arrived at our reserved lodgings 3.8 km after Paladin de Rei, a very nice albergue (12E ) about 3:30.
I have 63km to go which I will spread over 4 days as I don’t want to pay for more than two nights in Santiago.
