Day 13. Monday 7th May.
Azofra to Granon
Albergue Ave de Posa 10E brkfst 3E
22 km. 380 up 200 down. 23 high. 10 low. Very hot walking 3-4:00
We left the albergue at 7:30 after a hard boiled egg. Then decided we needed a coffee as it was over 9k to the next town. So really left at 8:00am.
I got into a bit of trouble at the top of the big hill where a young an had some fruit and jewellery donativo. I put in a couple of euros and took a mandarin and a couple of of small bits of melon in a light throw away plastic glass. I managed to knock another glass to the ground and boy did he kick up I had cost him three things. Jean said no only one he said so it’s ok if you not pay. Very grumpy and scoldy.
Then when we got to Santa Domingo there was a tent for Goretex offering free treatment for pilgrims from a podiatrist. I suggested a couple of times that Jean might want to after a salad with goat cheese lunch. I went to lie in the sun took off my boots and socks and noticed two large blisters so went into tent to wait my turn. Jean was nearly finished. Pleased with her treatment.
So after one waiting pilgrim my turn to climb on the table. “You have very dry skin this is s problem for blisters. I will use a needle to drain them and this will be better. It will not hurt but if it does don’t move please just say stop. “
All was well for the first two blisters she very gentle and friendly, chatting with people in the tent. Then suddenly she jerked while moving. to another of my middle toes and impaled the needle and syringe in the side of my big toe. It was out of her hand and sticking out the side of my foot. I did not say stop. She looked horrified. This is not good sorry she said. It really was priceless moment. So as well as the top of three middle toes and the side of my foot she also dressed my big toe (see cover photo). As Andy would say I am so pleased I saw it. The instructions to put cream on my feet morning and night and to remove dressing and air my feet. Pretty much my regime any way.
The rest of the day was uneventful. Hot and drying. Got to the albergue just after four. Went to a small bar in town. Some language difficulties. The elderly barman cooked out meal the cook arrived later but it was very good. Pasta,a glass of vino blanco, pork schnitzel in an egg batter and a vanilla chocolate cornet for poster. All for 7.5 Euros.
We back at the albergue and getting into bed at 8:07.

Marie Have just caught up with your blog. Brings back memories. You are doing the same time of year as I did but it was much warmer 9 years ago except in the high passes. The snorers - a different one every night made me laugh I remember! I hope your feet ok after the brutal treatment. I loved Burgos it was the only place I had a break! Amazing museum and lovely food! Trying to remember the name of the town further on that has the octopus specialty - that was divine. Good walking dear friend I’ll have to do it again it is such bliss! Marie x
