Day 41 Monday 4 Mercadoiro to Hospital da Cruz
16-17 km. 300 up 400 down. Rain overcast 10 minutes sun
Another great walk. Much of it in light rain. Beautiful forests and rich green farmland.
Lots of large farming operations. Lou and Tawna disgusted with the smell. IMHO the larger the operation often the less the smell. Hard to make hay in Galicia so lots of silage and baleage. I told them it was the smell of money. The ones that had grain silos I assume were pigs and those without cows.
We are certainly feeling the impact of new pilgrims but most of the walk today we were on our own. We are trying to stop between the popular destinations and it worked for us today.
I am patiently waiting news from New Zealand but know they have everything under control.
The cover photo for today is the steps up to Portomarin which we did not have to take. Such a relief. Those I remembered but the steps down to the road through a stepped watercourse I had forgotten.

Marie Kiely Lovely to catch up with your blog dear friend. I have tried on a couple of occasions to send comments but have been stopped by the question they ask. Not because I get it wrong (truly)?but because it stops at that stage. Hope this gets through! I have walked through all of these places you have been in for The last 3 weeks lovely to see it all again and remember how wonderful it was. It was sunny except for one days rain and that was in May to. As you say each pilgrimage is so different. I hope you have got the news you want from NZ. Sending love very grateful for the reminding. You are very admirable. Xx
Marie Kiely Got through so very confident now!! I remember the climb to O’Cerebois. That was my one cold wet day! Just wondering whether you have come across fields of poppies! Haven’t noticed any photos of them! I loved them so much! And lavender. You are nearly done enjoy this last stageXx
