¡Hola!
Day 13- 21k today, 237k completed (about the same as walking from Nelson to Kaikoura), 534k to go to Santiago. Weather typical changeable spring weather - 4 seasons in one day. Last night was special - stayed in the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista (John the Baptist), community meal ( see pic), great fun, noisy, lots of talking in about 10 languages, speeches in Spanglish/ French/Korean. Then the mass in church and the priest didn't turn up - the old girls from the village were not happy. The priest apparently had a funeral that afternoon and maybe had a little too much of the vino tinto. After the no-mass we had a meeting of the peregrinos in the choir area (high up at the back of the church) where we each could say what The Camino meant for us. I gave my speech in Spanish!! In public! Was definitely high risk effort, unprepared off the cuff stuff but I didn't die! Close - from embarrasment, but the best part is I will probably never see these people again so it is OK. Today's walk was OK - quick easy and into the local peregrino hospital - la Iglesia de San Francisco de Assisi - sleeping on mats on the floor with about 10 others. What is required for this? They call it the "zen of communal living"!! Pray for us peregrinos!! Hasta mañana!
