¡Buenas! Day 24 - 19k walked, pretty much dead flat, weather changeable still with a cold front (frente frío) coming through about midday. I walked the first part with a 65 yr old Chinese guy, Changshun, who had grown up with Mao as the boss - fascinating conversation! Left school, sent to work in factory, Mao died, Changshun went to uni, made to study politics, learned English off the radio, went to Finland for PhD and stayed there, eventually worked for Finnish business selling forestry tools to China, made a lot of dinero, but in process lost Chinese citizenship - apparently you can't hold 2 passports if you are Chinese. So now he has a Finnish passport -and he can't go back to China to live. Apparently there are 50 million other Chinese in his situation. Then it was a walk for a few Kms with an Aussie called Brian who turned out to be a retired Judge! Talk about a seriously quick mind!! Anyway we strengthened Aussie/Kiwi relations and agreed to celebrate ANZAC Day together with a few beers. After that we got to Mansilla de las Mulas, an old Roman town with walls still standing (see pic of Sal charging the gate), then it was just finding an Albergue - La Gaia - very nice - warm, with just 10 people in the bedroom, a kitchen, nice showers. All of which more than covers the basics for the next 12 hours. Hasta pronto!
