Day 42 - 31 May - Route 66 end of the road trip. We drove out of Springfield early on Interstate 44 - branched off at Halltown after about 30mins and found Gary Gay Parita - a 1930s style gas station in the old Route 66. Day 41 - 30 May 28degC - nice day. Started off a bit wobbly when we couldn’t find our car in the parking building!!! We wandered around for about 1/2hr and eventually found it in a different building about a block away. Got a bit sweaty there for a while! We all rate American roads, National Parks, breakfasts, the politeness of ordinary people, the good service of staff in restaurants and the general culture of honest hard-work. Day 38 - 27 May. 8hr drive Mechanicsburg PA to Lexington, KY. Seft and I did it relatively easily - switching every 2hours as driver or navigator - finally getting better at handling the beast. Day 40- 29 May - a “rest” day in St Louis. We’ve been running on fumes lately so its good to slow down and recharge the batteries.
