We arrived in London at 5:15am after a 22 hour flight from Melbourne. Passed through immigration and customs without any problemsand then caught our Hotelink minibus to our hotel, Thistle Lancaster Gate, arriving at 6:45am.
Went for a walk through Kensington Gardens while we waited for our hotel room to be ready. Saw Queen Victoria's monument to her husband. Walked back to hotel, checking in at 8:30am. Rested at the hotel for an hour then got ready and caught the tube from nearby Lancaster Gate station to St.Johns Wood station for a tour of Lord's Cricket Ground.
We were a bit early for the 2pm tour so went next door to Lord's Tavern for a drink. We were surprised to be served by an Australian behind the bar! Returned to Lord's for the 2pm tour only to realise we didn't
bring a tape for the video camera. Tour of Lords was excellent and worth the £6.50. Walked through the
media centre, long room, player's changerooms and the museum to see the original Ashes trophy. Tour guide was great, very informative.
Caught tube back to hotel, then went in search of a reasonably priced dinner! Ate at Craven Cafe in Craven Terrace around the corner from our hotel. Reasonably priced meals, mainly burgers or pies with vegetables and salad.
