After a great breakfast at our B&B we headed off towards Nottingham. We stopped at Warwick on the way through to visit Warwick Castle.
Parked our car in the car park we were directed to only to find it would cost us £2.50 to park the car. We went on a self-guided tour of the castle. Tour was great with lots of wax figures acting out scenes in the castle and some nice views from the ramparts.
We left Warwick Castle at noon after leaving the car park and not having to pay a cent, seems the machine that closed the gate was broken ! Arrived in Nottingham but again got lost looking for our hotel. After asking a kiosk attendant at a local park we found we were one street away.
Checked into Acorn Hotel at 1:45pm. The room was small but very comfortable, one of the more comfortable beds we were to come across!
Started our quick tour of Nottingham, stopping first at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground for a photo and a look in their somewhat understocked shop. Walked on further to the City Ground the home ground of Nottingham Forest Football Club. Took a few photos and then had a look in their club shop for a few souvenirs.
Walked overTrent Bridge towards the city stopping at Broadmarsh Shopping Centre in search of lunch but settled for a capuccino and a muffin each. Walked through city to Nottingham Castle. Museum inside was OK, but the interactive museum that had nothing to do with the castle was a bit annoying. Some nice views of the city from the castle.
Walked back towards hotel passing the Robin Hood Statue and the oldest pub in England, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem dating from 1189. Arrived back at hotel at 5:30pm. Went to dinner at 6pm at a chicken shop over the road from the hotel, Al's Fried Chicken. Burgers were good, chips needed some more work!
We thought about going to pub around the corner to watch Middlesbrough vs Manchester United on TV but noticed a lot of people in Nottingham Forst shirts heading to the City Ground. We decided to see if we could see the game, finding out it was free to get in we followed everyone into the grandstand and
found out it was a reserve game between Forest and Derby County. Game ended 2-2 and was very entertaining, pity we didn't take our camera!
